Three people were rescued after getting trapped in vehicles stuck in flood waters northeast of Las Vegas early Wednesday morning.

The Moapa Valley Fire District said in a Facebook post that it got reports of two incidents where people were trapped at about 1:26 a.m.

In one incident, a semi-truck was stuck in water on State Route 169 at the Overton Wash Crossing. The driver could not leave the vehicle, so the fire district's water crews reached them to bring them to safety.

A second incident was reported just south of the semi-truck that was stuck. Flood waters were up to the windows of a van with two people inside.

Las Vegas Metropolitan Police's Search and Rescue team was called to help due to the rushing waters and lack of access, and an air unit was able to hoist the two people out of the van.

No injuries were reported in either incident. LVMPD said an older couple had pulled off of the highway to get some rest. The water was up to their chest by the time the air unit arrived.

The fire district says State Route 169 will remain closed south of Overton until further notice as transportation department crews clean up the roads and clear the two vehicles.
